About Nathi Gcabashe

Nathi Gcabashe is a Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, guitarist, and record producer from Durban, South Africa (KwaZulu-Natal region). In 2006, he released his debut album Soze on Hugh Masekela's label Chissa Records. In 2008, he toured with Hugh Masekela and The Chissa All-Stars across 30 U.S. cities, sharing the stage with Jill Scott, Billy Ocean, Diana Ross, and Mary Mary. Hugh Masekela covered Nathi's hit single "Makoti" on his album Jabulani, which was nominated for the 2013 Grammy Award for Best World Music — earning Nathi a Grammy nomination as songwriter. He performed at both the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cup celebrations. For over a decade, he appeared at Disney's Animal Kingdom as lead singer of the Wassalou Band / Burudika.
